Who is L.R. Brain?

L.R. Brain is a team of highly-educated and ultra-passionate individuals who believe learning doesn't have to be hard.​

Now, you might be wondering, "what does 'L.R. Brain' mean?"
To answer that, we first need to look at how the brain actually works.
​
Our brains are made of two halves, which we call "hemispheres" - these are the left and right hemispheres. These hemispheres have their own unique ways of processing information, and when they work together we get a complete picture of the world around us.
​
Here's where conventional education models have it wrong - they focus heavily on teaching styles that favor the left hemisphere, and completely overlook the right hemisphere. As a result, institutions that use this old model are unable to offer a complete, well-rounded education that activates both hemispheres.

At L.R. Brain, we understand that a lasting education only happens when we exercise both the left (L) and right (R) hemispheres of the brain. And that's how L.R. Brain was born!
Our philosophy is all about activating both hemispheres to make education productive, rewarding, and (most importantly) FUN!

Our System
Teaching methods that actually work
Our tutors remember all-too-well how unproductive, frustrating, and downright boring traditional tutoring models are, not just for the students but for the tutors as well.
Not only is traditional tutoring unproductive, it's inefficient. Tutors are expected to spend hours preparing review material in advance of each session, only to find most of their students need help with completely separate topics. This inevitably leads to tutors feeling underprepared and overwhelmed, which leaves students feeling unsupported and uninspired.

L.R. Brain does things differently.

Instead of demanding hours of pointless work from our tutors, we use Khan Academy to build state-of-the-art learning frameworks that are proven to help students learn, understand and retain the information they are taught. Our online learning framework makes it easy for our tutors to find the right learning material for each student, without spending time and energy guessing and then adjusting on the fly. We truly feel this is a game-changer when it comes to effective, sustainable learning.

Over the past 5 years, she has worked in a variety of educational settings, including before/after school programs, outdoor enrichment programs, summer camps, health and wellness education, and behavioral intervention. She strives to incorporate creativity in her teaching practice by focusing on inquiry-based learning and is passionate about empowering our youth with accessible resources, so everyone can achieve a quality education.

Dominic currently works as a Lab Tech and Adjunct Instructor with College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, CA. He operates and maintains the Physics and Earth Sciences laboratories. He also teaches college-level physics and astronomy classes. Dominic is passionate about passing on the support that he received throughout his academic journey and help empower the next generation of students.

Aurian has a Masters degree is Biology from UC San Diego, where she worked in a stem cell neuroscience lab. She loves helping students build confidence and clarity about their skills and their future. In her free time, Aurian loves indoor rock climbing, jiu-jitsu and yoga!

With a BS in Astrophysics from San Francisco State University, Truman has a strong background in mathematics disciplines such as advanced coursework in Calculus, Statistics, and Linear Algebra. With 10+ years working with kids of all grade levels, tutoring comes second-nature to Truman. His expertise in math, programming, CAD design and education, combined with his enthusiasm for helping others, makes him an outstanding tutor.
